Take a little bit of that cheesy 1950s sitcom flair, add a few mischievous and playful improvisers, and stir it all together with the spirited, ambitious and progressive direction of Katarin Nuñez and Diego de los Reyes and you have ¡Te Quiero Mucho!
¡Te Quiero Mucho! is a fully-improvised sitcom inspired by “I Love Lucy” but telling the story of the immigrant and BIPOC experience in America.
Enter the “studio” as ¡Te Quiero Mucho! is about to “film” before a live studio audience. The cast will ask the “live studio audience” for suggestions and then weave together a narrative Harold with fully improvised TV ads in-between beats!
“I wanted to make a show that connected to my background growing up Cuban American ‘I Love Lucy’ was such a big deal to me and my family,” says ¡Te Quiero Mucho! director Katarin Nuñez, “especially seeing Desi Arnaz, a Cuban immigrant, as one of the stars and show-runners of the show in 1950s America alongside Lucille Ball, who also subverted expectations of that time! In paying homage to ‘I Love Lucy’ I also wanted to see what a version of the show would look like today. A show that not only subverts today’s notion of the American dream but one that represents diverse communities that includes race, culture, gender and sexuality.”
