The Power of Specificity
with Stephanie Rae
Saturday, August 5, 12-2:30pm (2.5 hours)

This is a red ball. But is it a glittering, diamond-encrusted disco ball? Or is it a worn down, quarter-sized rubber ball? The details you add to your dialogue can make or break a scene or set, so we’re going to build your specificity muscles with mental exercises. Then, we’ll put these skills to the test with improv comedy based on true stories. You won’t just have fun being specific. You’ll have more fun than a thirty-six-year-old candy connoisseur touring Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. See what I did there?

STEPHANIE RAE is a career applied improv practitioner who is passionate about amplifying diverse voices. She’s guest played with everyone from ComedySportz to the Groundlings, taught improvisers from Louisiana to Liverpool, and worked with members of Broadway’s Freestyle Love Supreme as a performer & facilitator for Freestyle+. As founder and president of the Black Improv Alliance, she’s created free programming for improvisers of color worldwide and has worked with corporate clients including the onePULSE Foundation, The Executive Leadership Council, SC Johnson, and YouTube, among others. She also has a law degree from Georgetown – but mostly uses it to win arguments online.

$25-45 (pay-what-you-can) / 2.5 hours / Limited Space / Class is held at the Hideout Theatre downtown
