Improvised Singing Classes
Take your off-the-cuff skills to the next level!
SINGING ONE
Sometimes improv needs a little razzle-dazzle. Learn the basics of improv singing in short-form games, scenes, and straight-up songs off the top of your head. Learn to seamlessly weave in and out of singing, communicate with the musical accompanist, work as an ensemble or solo singer, apply song structure, and take your first crack at this amazing (and totally freakin’ scary) form of improv. Classes meet for six weeks, 2.5 hours each week, limit 14 students. The workshop will culminate in a student showcase for friends and family. (Prereq: Levels 1 through 6)
SINGING TWO
This second class in our musical improv series will build on the basics and invite the performers to step up their game, creating more complex song structures, exploring a wide variety of song genres and styles, and doubling down on confidence and commitment. You’ll begin to explore and master solo song performance and techniques for bringing character and tone into your songs. You will drill your rhyming, precision and timing skills. Classes meet for six weeks, 2.5 hours each week, limit 14 students. The workshop will culminate in a student showcase for friends and family.
(Prereq: Levels 1 through 6 & Singing 1)
SINGING THREE
Take what you’ve learned in the first levels of improvised singing and apply them to storytelling and narrative. Learn where, when, and what to sing about to best support your story. Find the song behind the song and start to improvise lyrics that are poetic and metaphoric. Work on opening and closing numbers and start to build your own musical formats and troupes. Classes meet for six weeks, 2.5 hours each week, limit 14 students. The workshop will culminate in a student showcase for friends and family in the Sunday Weekender.
(Prereq: Levels 1-6 & Singing 1-2 & Narrative 1)
