Dickens Takes Shape

Kaci, in addition to being one of the directors and performers in Charles Dickens Unleashed, is also designing and painting the set. The work just started in earnest today, and she’s been penciling in the design:

It already looks great to me. Just imagine what paint will do to it.

Dickens is taking shape in more ways than one. Tonight is the first of our dress rehearsals. We’ve been doing full run throughs for a few weeks, but only in our street clothes.  It’s exciting to see what will happen when the stories we’ve been telling have the extra context of costumes and set.

Improv provides a unique challenge when it comes to costumes. For instance, if I start out dressed as a dapper gentleman, is it proper for me to play a grungy pickpocket throughout the show? Or even more extreme, to play a matronly grandmother when I’m clearly dressed as a young lad? Luckily, we’ve got a lot of spare cloth and hats and shawls,  so some costume modification can and will be done on the fly. But it should be an interesting experiment.

Charles Dickens Unleashed opens this Saturday at 8PM, and you can purchase tickets right on this website.
