Mainstage Workshops

Every month is a different 3-week workshop inspired by a Hideout Mainstage or Student Mainstage show, taught by our top directors, teachers and rock-star improvisers in the downstairs theater.

Upcoming Mainstage Workshops:

Raising the Musical Bar with Mallory Schlossberg
September 8, 15 and 29, Saturdays 1:30-4pm (skipping Sept 22)

Ever listen to a song in a musical in think, “damn, I wish I could improvise like that?” While we will never have the luxury of writing our songs before hand (that’s why we do improv!), there are ways to take your songs to the next level. In this workshop, we will be doing a deep dive into improvising better songs, focusing on lyrics, taking risks with more complicated structures, genre and style. We will also work on making musical choices that serve the scene or story. Previous musical improv experience required.

Mallory Schlossberg has been improvising since 2011. Originally from New York, she performed on the Magnet Theater’s first ever all-female musical house team The Jezebelles from 2013 to 2015. Since moving to Austin in spring 2017, she’s had the privilege of performing in several shows including Death by Musical and Orphans!, and she’ll be co-directing Grand Misery at The Hideout in January 2019.

$105 for each 3-week session ($120 for musical workshops) / Limited space / Classes held at The Hideout Theatre (617 Congress Ave.)
