The Hideout is downtown Austin’s oldest independent coffee house. We are open morning to night, weekdays and weekends and serve beer, wine, fresh sandwiches, pastries, as well as an assortment of beverages and coffee drinks.

You can bring food and drink from the coffee house up into the theatre to enjoy during one of our many improv comedy shows!

The Hideout is also Austin’s oldest and longest-running improv venue. We’ve been performing and teaching improv since 1999, have won several awards for our work, and are generally recognized as the epicenter of Austin’s improv renaissance of the 2000’s. We are conveniently located downtown at the corner of 7th Street and Congress Avenue, making us the perfect spot to start – or end – your evening in the Texas capital!

Improv comedy is unscripted theatre and the unplanned and unpredictable nature of it makes every show unique and delightful. We draw inspiration from audience suggestions and our scene partners alike and sometimes even ask audience members to join in the fun and play a scene with us. (Don’t worry, we’ll never pick anyone who doesn’t want to play along 🙂 )

The Hideout has 8 shows every weekend, Thursday through Sunday, each with its own style and tone. Whether you’re looking for short and punchy comedy a la Whose Line Is It Anyway, or longer full-length comedic plays, we’ve got something for everyone. We’ve even got an award-winning improv show specifically for kids, Flying Theater Machine, every Sunday at 2pm.

All of our shows are affordable (most shows are $12 and under). The box office opens 30 minutes before show time or you can purchase tickets on our website using the links below. The Hideout is an all-ages venue (no minimum age requirement!) and parking is conveniently located at metered street spots, or at the parking garage at 7th & Brazos.
