Teatro Humanidad's critically acclaimed, award-winning sketch comedy
ensemble The Latino Comedy Project (LCP) returns with "Citizen Quién?"
("Citizen Who?"), a hilarious ALL-NEW full-length show featuring more of the
group's cutting-edge political/pop culture satire, and a special late night
"Best of the Latino Comedy Project" show. That's two totally different
full-length shows of incredible LCP hilarity throughout the month of May!
The LCP will be performing Thursdays through Saturdays, May 12- June 5th at
8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. at The Hideout Theater, 617 Congress Avenue.
"Citizen Quién?" takes the audience on a whirlwind ride through the
absurdities of American politics and pop-culture. A national right-wing
push to allow foreign-born citizen Arnold Schwarzenegger to run for
President backfires when a brown face steps up to the challenge. Meet
Arturo Quintanilla, a humble immigrant born into the slums of Mexican
poverty. Follow his dramatic rise from the cutthroat underground world of
street chicle (chewing gum) vending, to star of the worst action film in
Mexico's history, to his determined campaign for the highest public office
in this hilarious Arnold-esque rags-to-riches story.
In addition, the LCP's "Citizen Quién?" takes on an array of ripe comedic
targets, including: misfit mariachis with a surprisingly limited repertoire
of songs; insensitive stereotyping "ethnically targeted" sponsors;
bi-cultural/bi-polar Latinos; the disturbing childhood photo album of first
Latino Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Jr.; the first erectile
dysfunction prescription developed specifically for Latino men; and more
than a few jabs at a certain small-business crushing, world-wide
conglomerate (rhymes with "Mal-Mart"). Add several hilarious original LCP
video parodies, and you've only begun to scratch the surface of the LCP's
laugh-out-loud madness.
And to those new to the LCP or who just want to see more great comedy, the
LCP's Hideout run will also include at 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays a
second "Best of The Latino Comedy Project" late night show, featuring all of
the LCP's most popular classic sketches and videos that have left LCP tour
audiences across the nation breathless from laughter! Expect all your
favorites and more, along with a few unexpected surprises.
In addition to LCP Artistic Director Adrian Villegas, other returning LCP
writers and performers for "Citizen Quién?" include Estrella DeLeon, Omar L.
Gallaga, Raul Garza, Karinna Perez, JoJanie Segura, Mical Trejo, Joaquin
Villarreal and Nick Walker.
At times literate and slapstick, acidic and supremely silly, the LCP's style
mixes intellectual and raunchy humor in equal measures. San Francisco
Chronicle Pop Culture Critic James Sullivan called the LCP "hilarious" and
"murderously funny" . So prepare yourself for an exciting night of
irreverent, fast-paced political/pop culture satire from a distinctly Latino
point of view with The Latino Comedy Project's "Citizen Quién" . They're
bad. They're brown. They're the Latino Comedy Project.
Ticket prices are $12 ($10 students, seniors,
