Ladies Are Funny Festival

Leading Up to LAFF: "Ladies Are Funny Festival" Showcases Female Comedy Talent

Girls Girls Improvised Musicals performs three shows leading up to The 2nd Annual Ladies Are Funny Festival

April 24-26, 2008

In 2008 a woman may be the "Queen of Daytime" and we may see a woman be the leader of the free world, but will we see a truly funny leading lady? As women are making strides in many fields, women in comedy still have a ways to go until Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are headlining movies and making money like Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller. The women of Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals are working on it. And they'll be out in full force at the second annual Ladies Are Funny Festival (LAFF) April 24, 25 and 26 at the Hideout Theater in Austin.

A production of Austin musical improv powerhouse Girls Girls Girls, LAFF will bring together comic talent from across the state and across the nation--all the way from Boston, New York Arizona--as well as the cream of Austin's rapidly-rising improv scene. Submissions were overwhelming and LAFF is ready to announce their lineup, which includes the headliner act "The Dick Monologues." In addition to shows, the festival will include a panel discussion on women in comedy and a fabulous after party.

"In our first year, we concentrated on improv, because that's what and who we know best," says GGG member Shana Merlin "This year we've incorporated more different styles of comedy, like standup, sketch and theater. We think that anyone who comes this year will be blown away by the range and depth of talent we've got right in our own backyard."

The Austin improv scene has achieved national prominence in a remarkably short time, as established performers flock here and new venues spring up to serve a rapidly-growing audience for improvised comedy. The city's new prominence is underscored by the Ladies Are Funny Festival, which is starting to become one of Austin comedy's calling cards.

In anticipation of the arrival of LAFF: Ladies Are Funny Festival, April 25-26, Girls Girls Girls Improvised Musicals will be performing at 8pm on Saturday nights in April at the Hideout Theatre. Performing their signature format of improvised musicals where the singing, dancing, characters, and comedy are all made up on the spot inspired by one audience suggestion, Girls Girls Girls represent some of the funniest and girliest improv comedians in Austin.

LAFF Mission Statement

Ladies are funny. That is why we created LAFF, a festival celebrating comedy written, produced, or performed by women. LAFF will serve the greater community by giving the public an opportunity to laugh themselves silly while at the same time creating new audiences and awareness of female comedy. LAFF will serve female comedians by creating community and opportunity for the diverse landscape of comedy by, for, and about women.

About Girls Girls Girls
