Heroes School of Improv Comedy
The Heroes of Comedy have been selflessly offering improv classes to working actors, disgruntled engineers, college students and all manner of Austinites since 1999. And hundreds of people have discovered that improv is a fun hobby, a unique art form and a powerful tool for their business or yacht club. We offer classes year-round, with Level 1 classes starting every couple months.
The Hideout is at the epicenter of Austin's current improv explosion with sold-out shows on Saturday night like Maestro, Improvised Shakespeare, Start Trekkin' and Gorilla Theatre. Our instructors are the most experienced in Austin and our curriculum (based on the work of Canadian improv guru Keith Johnstone) will blow your mind. For students eager to perform on the Hideout Stage, the Level 3 class culminates in a graduation performance. We also offer master classes for experienced improvisers and create custom workshops for groups and companies. |

The Hideout is bringing their most successful show ever back to the mainstage this fall and we want you involved in the process. Learn to tell a sixty-minute story with strong characters, transparent social allegories and lots of wigs and costumes. You'll work on creating self-contained scenes, building suspense and coming to a satisfying dramatic climax. Start Trekkin' is pure undadultrated fun like a longform should be. Workshop participants will perform in a short "warm-up" act before every show in the September/October run of Start Trekkin'. They will also perform at least two student performances of Start Trekkin' on a Thursday or Sunday in September/October. (We're still working out the details on these "Mainstage Workshops" so if there are other things we can do to make it worth your while, let us know and we'll try to make it happen.) Caveat: This workshop is in no way part of the casting process for the 2008 run of Start Trekkin'; it is an opportunity for improvisers to learn narrative longform techniquesin a genre that we have found to be exciting and exceptionally popular.
