World of Techcraft

World of Techcraft with Lindsey McGowen and Cindy Page
Next session schedule TBA

So you want to be a tech ninja? Come learn the magic art of world building, how to heighten and support your fellow improvisers from the booth, and give that extra theatrical gloss to any improvised show through an engaging mix of theory, games and exercises. Over the course of five weeks we will cover lights, scoring and sound effects – and on the final weeks, we’ll put it all together! We will end the series with a showcase in the Weekender. Recommended for anyone with an interest in technical improv, regardless of level.

Week 1: Lighting
Week 2: Scoring
Week 3: Sound Effects
Week 4: Tech for Short Form
Week 5: Tech for Narrative

Lindsey McGowen has a BA in Technical Theater from Case Western Reserve University, and after moving to Austin from Detroit in early 2014, she quickly made herself a go-to person for technical theater needs in the area. In addition to working on Hideout mainstages such as The International Improv Experience, Boy, Howdy!, Wanderlust and Austin Secrets, she was also a technical improviser and stage manager for both the 2014 and 2015 B. Iden Payne Award-winning shows Hurly Burly and Nothing & Everything: Improvised Chekhov Plays. Outside of improv, Lindsey is a nationally touring teacher and performer in the contemporary a cappella community.

Cindy Page is an inveterate member of the Tech Ninja Death Squad. Since 2011, she has made her home in the tech booths of the Hideout and Institution theaters; providing lights and sound for shows including B. Iden Payne award winning Hurly Burly, and Hideout mainstages A Deed So Dark, Austin Secrets, and Strange Worlds. She also trained the technical improvisers for The Aftermath and SongRunner, and is a founding member of Tech Nightmare and Technical Director for the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival. Her rare appearances on stage usually feature a puppet, musical instrument, or both; as a performer with BatShyt Crazy Puppets, one quarter of the Tiny Cute Trio, and the non-felt bassist for Fragile Rock.
