Spider Dance Workshops

We are THRILLED to have Anna and Amy of Spider Dance (from the Melbourne, Australia improv scene) visiting Austin and The Hideout. We begged them to teach a few workshops while they were here, and they graciously agreed.

Being Kind to Your (Impro) Self (3 Hours, $30)

From the beginning we’re trained to fail happily, be generous and start positive. As we progress we want to be good so badly that we can forget those lessons should apply offstage as well! It becomes far too easy to obsess over the crappy offers, awkward mistakes and clunky shows. The fear sets in and this makes it harder to play, take risks and become a stronger improviser.

In a safe and encouraging environment, I take participants through a series of group and solo exercises to help tame the harsh inner critic. Participants can expect to come away with some fun yet practical tools to use to become more resilient offstage, gain some valuable perspective and tear up the pity party invitations.

Spider Dance & Australian Mischief (2 hours, $10)

Larrikin is an old fashioned Australian term which has evolved to describe a mischievous or rowdy but good hearted person. Spider Dance brings out your inner larrikin with a series of games created & adapted by Amy & Anna especially for their American travels. Discover the cheeky side of Australian culture with games designed to poke, prod and celebrate your scene partners while building a montage style show.

Bio – Anna Renzenbrink, Amy Moule & Spider Dance

As members of the Impro Melbourne Company, Amy and Anna bonded when they were sent to Brisbane to compete in the National Theatresports Championships in 2012 (they won) and have been collaborators & friends ever since.

This friendship led to a season in the New Zealand Fringe Festival with their troupe Spider Dance in 2013 (described as “a feminine tempest of divine creativity”) and to directing and performing in each other’s long form shows – including Anna’s Tilly & Flora In the Parlour at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Amy’s If These Walls Could Talk produced by Impro Melbourne Theatre in 2013.

Anna & Amy currently pursue their own diverse improvised projects from Mask (Amy) to Workshops on Obscure Genres (Anna) but continue to join forces on the monthly Aussie soap opera Spinnaker Bay, exploring character comedy and eating ice-cream sundaes.

Fact:
Anna has been performing improvised theatre for over 11 years and won the Stand Out Performer Award at the NZ Fringe in 2013.

Fact: Amy is also an accomplished puppeteer working with Camp Quality and has completed the Die Nasty Australia annual 52 Hour soap-a-thon three years in a row!

They look forward to meeting and playing with as many new American “improv” friends as possible on their USA holiday. #moulenbrinkabroad @spiderdancers #icecream

Spider Dance will also be performing on Friday, October 10th as part of PGraph Presents.
