Do you find yourself stuck in the middle of the stage during scenes, a talking head with no anchor to your body or environment? Do you wish you could be more comfortable with intimate touching and relationships onstage? Are you told that you’re too quiet or too loud in scenes? In this 3-week 3-session workshop you’ll work closely with Hideout performer and director Kaci Beeler to refine and polish often overlooked aspects of improvised theatre in your own work.

There are so many other inspiring tools at our disposal that are not our own clever wit or dialogue onstage. Audiences know this too, which is why they delight at things like physical touch, emotional noises, and purposeful stage picture. Determined to connect to every audience and use her whole body as well as the entire stage, Kaci wants to instill the same principles in you. She wants you to be dynamic, vulnerable, yet completely relaxed onstage. Yes, it’s possible. In this short but potent series, you’ll learn to better connect with your environment, your scene partners, and most importantly, yourself.

About the Instructor:

Kaci Beeler is a visual artist, improviser, and stage and film actor based out of Austin, TX. She has been performing improvisational theatre for over thirteen years and is a company member with several award-winning ensembles and duos including Parallelogramophonograph, Adventure Squad, The Amazon and The Milksop, and Available Cupholders. In addition to her work as an actor, Kaci is also the Director of Design at The Hideout Theatre in Austin and creates dynamic scenic, costume, and promotional design for over 15 improvised productions a year.

She has directed and produced dozens of improvised and devised shows in Austin in the past ten years and has won several Austin Critics Table and Austin Chronicle Best of Austin Awards for her work. Kaci has toured to over 40 cities and 7 countries including the UK, Australia, Canada, France, China, South Korea, and Japan to perform and teach improvised theatre. She can also be seen in national commercials and in movie theaters this summer in the film My All American opposite Aaron Eckhart.
